Create Raid 10 data storage to support MySQL databases

As Raid 10 is the recommended configuration to store MySQL databases, and none of the commercial WHS system like Acer Easystore or HP Storeworks support it, I decided to create my own Raid 10 system on Windows Home Server system

First, the server raid system Rosewill RSV-S4-X 4 Bay SATA to eSATA (Port Multiplier) JBOD / RAID 0, 1, 1+0, 5 Enclosure is required. This system is $159.99.

Secondly, we need a barebon Atom 525 dual system. Jetway Mini-TOP HBJC600C99-52W-BW Intel Atom D525 CPU NM10 Barebone System is a good option.

A little bit expensive at $269.99, but it provides powerful processing capability with low power consumption, and it also provides an eSATA / USB 2.0 combo port. The nice video card is a little bit waste, but we can live with it.

Another option isJetway HBJC200C96-525-B Intel NM10 2 x 240Pin Intel GMA 3150 Black Barebonewhich is 169.99. It also uses Atom 525 CPU. However, it comes with a less powerful video card but supports 8GB memory

Thirdly, a Microsoft Windows Home Server 32 Bit 1 Pack (Power pack 1) is required. Current price is $109.99.

The last thing is Hard drives and memory


240 pin DDR2 800/667 memory for Jetway system: I will recommend A-DATA Supreme Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory Model SU2U800C4G6-2 at $151.49, which is a nice deal.


Now, the total cost is about $1300 including tax. We get a system with 8G memory and 4T of storage of raid 10.

To make it less expensive, we can use 1T hard drives, to yield 2T storage of Raid 10 storage,

The memory can be 4G instead of 8Gb save another $70

Therefore, the total cost will be $1000.

If less storage is acceptable, then the embedded Raid 1 storage can be used and we only need 2 SATA2 hard disk at 2T. We can save another $180 and make the system about $820.

To build a Raid 10 storage with 4T storage, the cost is about $800.

To build a Raid 10 with 2T storage, the cost is about $400.

Google has an document about  How to Building Smartphone-Optimized Websites . In this document, responsive web design is the first suggestion. I have been looking for a easy to implement responsive css framework that can change my websites layout so that they can fit to smart phone device for quite a little while.
